    Yenupini Joyce Adams is an Associate Professor of the Practice and the Global Maternal Research Lead for the Eck Institute for Global Health at the University of Notre Dame. She has spent years studying and researching the issue of maternal mortality.

    "Some of the direct causes would be related to issues with blood pressure, hypertension, hemorrhage, sepsis, infection, but then also a big chunk of it is because of access to care and quality of care," said Adams.

  3. Viewpoint: Community invited to access maternal, infant health services

    With funding from Health First St. Joseph County, and additional support from Notre Dame’s Eck Institute for Global Health, we have established a community program titled Pop Up Pregnancy & Family Village to address these recommendations and decrease access barriers for women in our county. The Pop Up Pregnancy & Family Village is designed to be a one-stop-shop for all SJC pregnant women, new mothers and their families to access existing health care services, community resources and more in one convenient location.

    A University of Notre Dame assistant professor has received funding from a St. Joseph County Health Department initiative to pilot a novel “one-stop shop” of health resources available to new mothers.
